To all who've recently subscribed to our newsletter: Thank you for joining!
Spring is here! The temperatures are warming and it's a great time to get outdoors. There's still some spawning activity with various species. Bug hatches have been inconsistent, but growing in variety as we move into summer. Expect soft bites on small flies and frequent change outs. The bass fishing has been great on various stretches of the Guadalupe and other hill country rivers. Anglers are having good results with surface flies and sub-surface flies.
It's a good time to reserve your dates for spring/fall in Texas and summer in Colorado. We'll be targeting trout through April, and bass March through May. Check out http://actionangler.net/ to book a trip, buy some gear or gift certificate, or get up to speed on the latest river info.
RIVER CONDITIONS
The water temperatures on the Guadalupe are in the 60s. The flows on the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake are 59 CFS. All of the trout stockings are complete, and the trout have settled into their new environment. The river is full of trout catching opportunities. Keep an eye on air temps. Once we get consecutive days of air temps over 90 degrees, it will have a bigger impact on water temps. We will discontinue trout fishing as soon as water temps hit 69 degrees. The Canyon Lake level is 12 feet low and flows could reduce more if rainfall doesn't increase. Some of you may have heard that there is some construction scheduled for Canyon Dam. That work has been cancelled, and there is no plan for any flow disruption. The best way to approach your fishing outing is to check the flows before you head out. Wading can become dangerous if you are on the river when the dam suddenly increases its flow. We recommend visiting http://www.grtu.org/flow/ to stay informed of the lake level and dam release. Make sure to book a trip soon to secure your date.
